Mother’s Day in the mountains offers a multitude of ways to share this special day
Mother’s Day is this Sunday and if you are lucky enough to be able to celebrate with your mom in person, here are a few ideas on how you can spend this special day with her. From sporty activities to arts and crafts, decadent brunch offerings, or some pampering at the local spas, there’s always a great way to spend a memorable Mother’s Day in the Vail Valley.
Get outdoors with mom
Let’s start with our surroundings. Getting outside is a great way to connect with your mom and Mother Nature. Whether it’s a free activity like walking on a trail or cycling on a bike path, take some time to stop and smell the flowers and see the changing of the seasons as the valley starts to green up.
If skiing or snowboarding is still on the agenda for mom this time of year, Summit County’s slopes are still open. Breckenridge and Copper Mountain close this weekend, and Copper will have DJs spinning tunes at the base area from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday and 1-4 p.m. on Sunday. Arapahoe Basin will host live music and Slush & Spokes on Mother’s Day weekend. Saturday you find 60 bikers heading down the slush on an intermediate trail called High Noon (what could go wrong?) It should be a fun way to share the love of the sport of skiing and snowboarding with the woman who may have even taught you how to do it.
Golfing is in full swing downvalley with all 18 holes open at Eagle Ranch Golf Club and Gypsum Creek Golf Course. Eagle Ranch will be giving mom a special discount on greens fees. 18 holes with a cart will be $50 and 9 holes with a cart will be $35 on Saturday and Sunday. There is also a sale in the pro shop and women’s clothing, shoes and hats are marked down 30% through Mother’s Day.
The Creekside Grill at Gypsum Creek Golf Course is hosting a Mother’s Day brunch from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. with a mix of breakfast and lunch items. Choose from omelets, eggs Benedict, French toast and pancakes or pasta, salads, smoked salmon and more. Finish it off with desserts and there’s even a chocolate fountain. The cost is $37.95 for adults, $14.95 for ages 11-17 and kids 10 and under are free. No reservations are necessary.
